Will people be able to cast their votes remotely very soon?

This is a good development. The Election Commission of India and IIT Madras have come together to develop a technology that will enable the voters to cast their votes remotely, without having to visit the designated polling booth.
I think this is something that should have happened already. If we can carry out financial transactions using our mobile phones and the web browser, we should also be able to vote. There must be a way to make sure that people don’t exploit this ability (frankly, every possible ability can be exploited if someone is hellbent upon exploiting).

The police lathicharge in the Jamia library

For a couple of days two versions of a video have been going viral on social media: the police barging into the library of the Jamia University in Delhi and hitting the students with lathis, and some suspicious-looking individuals with their faces covered and holding stones entering the library, supposedly to hide from the police.
People on the Right are justifying the beating up of the students in the library by referring to the video in which it is shown that suspicious elements are entering the library.
I don’t agree with the way the police lathicharged in the library. This is not how a state machinery is supposed to work. But then, this is the police our system has made. The 70-year-old system.
Remember how leftist-liberals were cheering the Madhya Pradesh lady officer along with the police who physically assaulted people who were demonstrating in support of the CAA? This is how power structure works in our country.
If you are an officer, if you are a police a man or a policewoman, it is fine to yell at common people. It is fine to hit them with a stick or kick them or abuse them. Even people don’t find it strange although, depending on on which political side you are, you may protest.

Will Nirbhaya rapists be hanged this coming March?

Like the proverbial cat, the Nirbhaya rapists have been escaping the much deserved noose for a long time, forcing the hapless mother to cry in the court.
According to news appearing in media, death warrant has been issued on the convicts and they are to be hanged at 6 AM, March 3, 2020. Hopefully, this ugly saga will come to its natural end, though, the most barbaric offender is living peacefully somewhere in the south, if I’m not mistaken.

Nitish Kumar once a nationwide ban on liquor

Banning things, especially public utility things, has its pros and cons. When something like liquor is banned, it gives rise to bootleggers and smugglers because practically there is no way of policing every nook and corner of the region. There is a liquor ban in Bihar. Nitish Kumar, recalling that Mahatma Gandhi was against liquor consumption, wants a nationwide ban on the sale of liquor.
I’m not personally invested in liquor consumption. I know liquor consumption ruins many families. But so does car driving. Even food poisoning. But one thing I’m pretty sure of, people who want to drink, will drink, even if they have to buy their toes from the black market.
I wonder if there is data that can establish a correlation between liquor consumption and crimes such as rapes and murders.

Permanent commission for women officials in the Army

Some days ago the government had said that it was not possible to appoint women on command positions because troops won’t accept women commanders. Many people had objected to this stand from every spectrum. We have had a rich history of women commanders.
Now, the Supreme Court has ordered the center to grant permanent commission to women in Army, with equal ranks in apartments.
This is a progressive decision and what’s its implications are going to be, only time will tell.

A lot of dermatologists normally advise you get a powdered product over a liquid one for skin prone to acne.
