Particular one topic that I read about on the survey research website that we were required to read through for this week’s forum, is the topic of incentive based research and all that in entails such as creating more of a willingness to participate as well as the percentage that the dollar amount of the incentive gift affected the overall percentage rate. While the idea of incentive based research would seem like a no brainer to most as well as the thought of spending more on incentive to create more return on the overall research topic, I still found it interesting about the percentage rates that it did have an effect on. One particular part of this incentive based research topic that our text did not particularly cover is the point of which time the incentive gift was offered and how it raised or reduced the overall effect of the incentive gift. On this Survey Research site, it states that those that offered the gave the participant the incentive beforehand was more likely to have a higher rate of return while those that offered the incentive after the completion of the survey held a lower rate of return. I personally believe that giving the incentive beforehand can create somewhat of a guilt effect on the participate because you give the nice things such as an ink pen.

I chose this week to do topic option 2, and the length of questionnaire topic. In this section of the survey tutorial it goes threw the different general rules of how long a survey should be. It talked about how one might think that a long questionnaire would get less of feedback due to the length but it is not the case. The questionnaire contents are more valuable for the person’s feedback than that of the length. It had talked about how questions should show meaning and have value to the person taking the questionnaire in order for a person to give true feedback on any given subject. One thing that I had learned was when a person is doing an online survey that the programmer tries to limit the questions to one page, limiting the scrolling one would do when answering questions. Reflecting back to when I have ever done a survey this dose seems to be true. The less I had to scroll the less I seemed to be working when it comes to taking a survey. It also helps when completing a survey to not have to many questions on one page. The more questions one has on any given page the better odds of a person missing a question. When having to many questions for a survey the less likely a person is to complete it. If a person gets board or loses interest the more likely a person is to not complete it.
